Online consultation of UNESCO publication : “Ethics and Law in Biomedicine and Genetics : an Overview of National Regulations in the Arab States”

UNESCO Cairo Office is pleased to announce the online release on this blog of its latest publication “Ethics and Law in Biomedicine and Genetics : an Overview of National Regulations in the Arab States”. You can view this document by clicking on this link: Ethics&Law.pdf

This publication contains legal information and its analysis from 17 Arab countries on 10 selected bioethical issues which is the very first and unique research in this field. It deals with issues such as “Human Reproductive and Therapeutic Cloning”, “Embryonic Stem Cell Research”, “Abortion”, “Medical Practice”. This is the result of a long lasting and thorough work that the sector of Social and Human Sciences Unit of UNESCO Cairo Office has been coordinating in collaboration with many experts, institutions and scholars around the Arab world.

This research works aims at being an important reference not only to academia but policy makers and the general public to provide information and promote bioethics in the region. The publication includes a printed document, summarizing gathered information and an interactive electronic document providing all the full survey sheets, classified by topic and by country.

This publication is currently available in English only; the Arabic version will follow shortly.
